Design Intent

During renovation, it was critical to us that we not change the architectural structure, in itself essential.   We wished to perform a minimal intervention, with extreme clean details, using the original materials already present in construction, such as stone, glass and metal.  In this way we hoped to have a clear delineation between the modern and the original- devoid of false historical additions, made to look old.

We believe that the concept of tradition should expand without scarring the older generations, shaping the culinary hospitality on new social attitudes.

The architectural design is consistent with its ultimate goals, that is, to show the essence of the place, without taking away the importance of the area surrounding the farmhouse, without obstructing the vista . During renovation, it was critical to us that we not change the architectural structure, in itself essential.   We wished to perform a minimal intervention, with extreme cleanliness of details, using the original materials already present in construction, such as stone, glass and metal.  In this way we hoped to have a clear delineation between the modern and the original devoid of false historical movements, so common in ancient agricultural farm renovations.

From the courtyard perched atop the hills and plains below surrounded by an unreal picture of the Alps.

A Ten-year plan of reorganization and renovation of Cascina Langa.

Cascina Langa sits perched at 720 meters above sea level, on the crest of the hills from Trezzo Tinella towards Manera that outline the landscape to the north of the high (Alta) Langa pass. Cascina Langa is as much legendary as the most authentic place, surrounded by hectares of hazelnut trees, orchards and woods, instead of vineyards as widely happens on other Langa slopes.

The town of Cascina Langa is structured in three different original buildings: one still for residential use, a rural and an agricultural loft, which for two centuries have enclosed three sides of the large courtyard.

The fourth side is in fact completely open to a breathtaking view, where the east Langa sweeps across the Cuneo plain leading up to the Alpine chain with Monte Viso as the focal point. As the principle hideout of Fenoglio during the partisan resistance, he says of Cascina Langa "The lady was one of the strongest, boldest and eager women of the hill" (- the Partisan Johnny), Cascina Langa is a private place with a vocation of shelter, shelter for the body and spirit by the breath of earth that promises of mountains and sea breezes, with a network of trails that inspire exploration of thoughts.

The agricultural loft has been completely renovated by integrating two new layers: restaurant with an event space. It has become a gastronomic and artistic experimentation center, which, without neglecting the tradition, transforms local raw materials and produces creativity.

In the country, the completely renovated Cascina Langa consolidates the vocation of property: hospitality and relaxation.  Converted into a stylish spa area with ample spaces for relaxation and comfortable rooms decorated in the theme, organized around a path of body treatments to envelop guests in the evocative atmosphere of the place, in a beneficial inner journey through the heart and mind.
